WooCommerce Video Product Tab
The WooCommerce Video Product Tab plugin provides for easy and quick integration of videos in your product page. It works without its own admin area. With its installation, only a new “Video” tab is inserted in the Product options and product data:
This enables you to integrate videos from all providers who make an embedded code available (such as YouTube, Vimeo etc.). The title or the header that appears above the video can be individually determined. It can also be hidden using the “Hide Title” check box. If you want to embed several videos, you can enter two or more codes in sequence in the “Embed Code” field.
The result, using the example of our Hamburg theme, looks like this:
The presentation may vary depending upon the WordPress or shop theme.
The maximum size of the displayed video also depends upon the theme. In order to display this smaller, you adjust the size in the embedded video code. Alternatively, the plugin author makes the appropriate filter available.
If you want to insert the WooCommerce Video Product Tab in a multi-site environment, then you should read this instruction beforehand.
YITH WooCommerce Featured Video
The makers of YITH Featured Video came up with an exciting alternative form of display: There the video is integrated in place of the main article image. Thus – in case of our Hamburg theme – immediately at the beginning of the product page and next to the product description:
This is suitable mainly for products for which the full-motion video format should absolutely be the key focus. For example, an excerpt from a film in a video shop. The integration method is even easier here:
The plugin adds a new “Featured Video URL” field to the general product data. There you simply have to paste the YouTube or Vimeo URL, e.g. http://vimeo.com/1234567.
The solution has a slight drawback: Any product image already saved will no longer be displayed after the video is integrated, not even in the product gallery. The additional gallery images remain intact, however. This means it may involve some work if you would like to add videos to products already saved: The main product image must be copied into the gallery beforehand.
Important: Both plugins make changes to your WooCommerce installation. That is why you should try them out via a separate test system before integrating them in your live online shop. Even with your theme or other plugins, there may be incompatibilities.
Do you have any questions about the plugins? Or do you know of a WooCommerce extension that we really ought to introduce to our readers? We look forward to your comments.
