In addition to its still thriving trade and seafaring culture, this former Hanseatic city embodies tradition and is characterized by its open views across the Baltic Sea. We wanted to represent these unique features in a responsive WordPress theme, which meant first of all: White space. Lots and lots of space for products and blog content. Minimalist design with understated color accents, centered text blocks as solid pillars for product representation.
Open Sans, which has become more or less the standard font for current online content, provides a calm and solid typeface with excellent legibility. The more slim-lined Condensed font version is used in the header, menu, and in main titles only, proving that sticking to principles and understated elegance can come together easily in one single area.
Quick off the mark and optimized for mobile devices
The minimalist clarity of the design is continued in an efficient technical implementation. Kiel – just like all of our other themes – features outstanding performance based on next generation technologies, like CSS3 and HTML5. The responsive web design guarantees the very best presentation of shop or blog content – whatever the end device. Developers will appreciate the exhaustively documented theme API in particular.
In conjunction with the popular online shop extension WooCommerce for WordPress, Kiel will turn a simple website into a true retail platform. Our demo will give you an idea of what that platform might look like:
Your products and content are the main focus
Unpretentious, uncomplicated, and contemporary – these three main attributes best describe the Kiel theme, making it the perfect choice for a “product first” or “content first” approach: Your products or content will stand out as main focus. The theme is optimized for mobile devices to create a limitless shopping experience. Even your blog will always presented in the best possible light.

Shop with the legal certainty of WooCommerce
Kiel and WooCommerce for WordPress – one of the most popular and most importantly: FREE shop systems – go hand in hand. A WooCommerce-based online shop is therefore particularly quick and easy to implement. Our themes will ensure that your customers will enjoy superior design quality and user friendliness. After all: It should be fun to browse the virtual shop windows of your online offering!
It has not just been since the most recent revision of the EU consumer rights that it has become increasingly more difficult to operate an online shop in Germany or Austria that complies with all legal requirements. Our plugin WooCommerce German Market will offer the help and support you need to master this demanding task. The functions, which have been audited and verified by a legal specialist, expand Kiel (and all of our other themes) with the required identifiers, correct price information, etc.
Blog layout and multilingual content
You don’t have an online shop? Or would you like to create a parallel blog to get your products the attention they deserve? This is what the “Kiel” blog template looks like:
And Kiel can become international whenever you want. Our plugin Multilingual Press Pro make the implementation of multilingual pages and shops easily manageable. Kiel will recognize the selected language of the plugin independently, and will place it accordingly.
